BREAKING: Chiefs Star Ruled Out for Week 9 Showdown vs Bills With Knee Injury

Kansas City, MO – November 1, 2025

The Kansas City Chiefs will have to face the Buffalo Bills in Week 9 without one of their most physical offensive weapons. Head coach Andy Reid confirmed Friday that running back Isiah Pacheco has officially been ruled out for Sunday’s showdown due to a knee injury, a setback that could significantly impact Kansas City’s game plan.

Pacheco, who suffered the injury during Monday night’s win over the Washington Commanders, was diagnosed with a mild MCL sprain and did not practice all week. Reid said the team will take a “week-to-week” approach to his recovery, emphasizing caution for a player who embodies the offense’s intensity.

“He’s a tough kid, but we’re not going to rush this one,” Reid said. “We’ll see how it goes over the next several days.”

The 25-year-old back has been a vital part of the Chiefs’ balanced attack, combining downhill power with relentless energy that sets the tone for the offense. Through eight games, Pacheco has totaled over 600 rushing yards and five touchdowns — production Kansas City will now have to replace.

In his absence, the Chiefs are expected to rely on a committee approach. Veteran Kareem Hunt could see an increased workload, alongside Elijah Mitchell and rookie Brashard Smith, while the coaching staff may lean heavier on Patrick Mahomes’ passing game to offset the loss.

Pacheco’s injury adds to a growing list of concerns for Kansas City, which is also without offensive tackle Josh Simmons due to personal reasons and has several linemen listed as questionable. It’s a challenging situation ahead of a crucial AFC battle against a Bills team ranked among the league’s top defenses.

Still, Reid expressed confidence in his group, noting that the team’s identity has always been built on adaptability. “Injuries are part of the game. It’s about how you respond,” he said.

“We’ve got depth, and we’ve got heart. That’s what wins games in November.”

With Pacheco sidelined, the Chiefs’ offensive rhythm will be tested under the lights against Buffalo. And as Mahomes prepares to shoulder even more responsibility, Kansas City knows one thing for certain — the road to victory just got steeper without their fiery No. 10 in the backfield.
