He chose another woman… without knowing that everything he owned was under his wife’s name. 006

The mansion was illuminated as if it were a night of celebration, but for Elena, everything felt like a silent funeral.

In the center of the hall, her husband, Marcelo Andrade, raised a glass of champagne in front of his business partners, friends, and family. Standing beside him was Camila, a young woman in a golden dress with a victorious smile.

Elena remained standing near the staircase, her hands cold and her heart shattered.

Marcelo did not even try to hide it.

—I want everyone to know the truth —he said arrogantly—. Camila and I are together. Elena is no longer part of my life.

A murmur spread through the room.

Camila tilted her head with fake sweetness.

—We never wanted to hurt you, Elena. But sometimes love changes.

Elena looked at her in silence.

For twelve years, she had stood beside Marcelo. She stayed with him when he had nothing. She sold her jewelry to pay the first debts of his company. She spent nights reviewing contracts while he slept. She smiled in public while he ignored her in private.

And now he was replacing her in front of everyone.

Marcelo’s mother approached with contempt.

—The best thing you can do is leave with dignity. This house, this family, and this last name were never truly yours.

Marcelo placed the glass on the table.

—Your suitcases are ready. You can take them tonight.

Some guests lowered their eyes. Others pretended not to hear. No one defended her.

Elena took a deep breath.

—Are you finished?

Marcelo let out a laugh.

—Look at her talking. She still thinks she can give orders.

Camila smiled.

—Leave her alone. It must be hard to lose everything in one night.

Then Elena did something no one expected.

She smiled.

A small, calm, almost dangerous smile.

—You’re right about one thing, Camila. Tonight, someone is going to lose everything.

The room became uneasy.

Marcelo frowned.

—What does that mean?

Elena slowly walked down the stairs. Every step echoed against the marble like a countdown. She reached the main table, opened her purse, and pulled out a black folder.

—It means you should have read the documents more carefully before humiliating me in my own house.

Marcelo grabbed the folder impatiently.

—I don’t have time for your drama.

But when he opened it, his face changed.

First, the smile disappeared.

Then the color drained from his face.

Then the glass slipped from his hand and shattered against the floor.

Camila leaned toward him.

—What’s wrong?

Elena spoke calmly:

—The mansion is under my name. The main shares of the company are too. The cars, the investment accounts, and the beach property… everything was legally registered under my name when Marcelo needed to hide his assets from creditors.

Silence fell over the room like a heavy stone.

Marcelo looked up furiously.

—That was temporary.

—No —Elena replied—. It was legal. Signed. Notarized. And confirmed by your own lawyer.

At that moment, the doors of the hall opened.

Two lawyers, a notary, and several private security guards walked in.

The guests immediately stepped aside.

One of the lawyers approached Elena.

—Mrs. Andrade, we are ready to carry out your instructions.

Camila stepped back.

—Marcelo… tell me this isn’t true.

He did not answer.

Elena pulled out another envelope.

—I also found the transfers you made to secret accounts using company funds. And the fake contracts signed under third parties’ names.

Marcelo turned even paler.

—Elena, listen. Don’t do this here.

She looked at him with sharp sadness.

—You chose to do this here. In front of everyone. With her by your side.

Marcelo’s mother tried to intervene.

—Elena, think about the family.

Elena slowly turned toward her.

—I thought about the family when I sold my belongings to save your son. I thought about the family when he came home drunk and I lied to protect his image. I thought about the family every time you treated me like a guest in the house I was holding together.

No one spoke.

The lawyer handed Marcelo some documents.

—Mr. Andrade, you are hereby notified of the legal separation, the immediate suspension of access to corporate accounts, and the order to leave this property.

Marcelo stepped back.

—You can’t throw me out of my own house.

Elena held his gaze.

—It’s not your house.

Camila started walking toward the exit, but Elena stopped her with one sentence:

—You can keep him, if you still want him without the mansion, without the company, and without the money.

Camila looked at Marcelo. The man who minutes earlier looked like a king now looked like a lost child surrounded by papers he could not understand.

—You lied to me —she whispered.

Marcelo tried to grab her hand, but Camila pulled away.

Elena looked at the guards.

—Escort them out.

Marcelo exploded.

—You were nothing before me!

Elena stepped close enough for everyone to hear her answer.

—No, Marcelo. You were nothing without me. The difference is that I never needed to humiliate you to prove it.

The room fell frozen.

The guards escorted him toward the door while his business partners avoided looking at him. His mother cried in rage. Camila walked out behind him, no longer smiling.

When the door closed, Elena remained alone in the middle of the hall.

But she was not an abandoned woman.

She was a woman who had just reclaimed the place that had always belonged to her.
