Eagles Injury Watch: Lane Johnson Still Sidelined as NFC East Clash with Commanders Looms

With a pivotal NFC East showdown just days away, the Philadelphia Eagles are facing some serious uncertainty along the offensive line-again. Lane Johnson, the team’s All-Pro right tackle and one of the most crucial pieces of their offensive puzzle, was listed as a non-participant in Wednesday’s practice for the second straight day. That’s not the kind of news you want heading into a high-stakes rematch with the Washington Commanders.

The Eagles returned to the field at Lincoln Financial after a walkthrough on Tuesday, but Johnson remained sidelined, still nursing a foot injury that’s kept him out recently. While there was some optimism earlier in the week-NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported Sunday that Johnson was expected to return to practice soon-his continued absence is casting doubt on whether he’ll be ready for Saturday.

The Lane Johnson Effect

Let’s be clear: when Lane Johnson isn’t on the field, the Eagles just aren’t the same team. That’s not hyperbole-it’s backed by a decade of data.

Since Johnson entered the league in 2013, Philadelphia has gone 120-62-1 in the 183 games he’s played. That’s a .656 winning percentage.

Without him? Just 16-27 in 43 games.

That’s a massive drop-off, and it’s felt every time he’s not out there anchoring the right side of the line.

This season alone, the Eagles are 1-3 when Johnson doesn’t suit up. His presence not only stabilizes the protection for Jalen Hurts, but it also opens up the run game and gives the offense its trademark physical edge. Simply put, Johnson is the tone-setter up front.

More Injury Concerns Up Front

Unfortunately for Philly, Johnson isn’t the only key lineman dealing with issues. Left guard Landon Dickerson was also a non-participant on Wednesday, listed with a calf injury and rest designation. Dickerson has been a steady force in the interior, and his absence-if it extends into the weekend-would further complicate things for an offense that thrives on continuity and power in the trenches.

Then there’s Fred Johnson, the reserve tackle who’s stepped in at right tackle in Lane’s absence. He too was listed as a DNP with an ankle injury. That’s three tackles down, and suddenly the Eagles’ offensive line depth is being tested in a big way.

Defensive Front Takes a Hit Too

It’s not just the offense feeling the injury bug. Pro Bowl defensive tackle Jalen Carter was also held out of practice with shoulder issues.

Carter’s been a disruptive force all season and is a key part of the Eagles’ interior pass rush. If he can’t go, that changes the complexion of how the defense attacks Washington’s offensive line-especially in a game where pressure on the quarterback could be the difference between a win and a loss.

What’s Next

The Eagles are entering a critical stretch of the season, and Saturday’s game against the Commanders isn’t just a rivalry matchup-it’s a chance to solidify playoff positioning and bounce back from recent inconsistency. But to do that, they’ll likely need at least some reinforcements on the offensive line.

All eyes will be on Thursday’s practice report to see if Lane Johnson makes any progress. If not, the Eagles could be heading into a must-win game with a patchwork line and major questions on both sides of the ball.
