After three days of heated debate surrounding the New England Patriots’ 24–23 victory over the Atlanta Falcons at Gillette Stadium, Falcons legend Matt Ryan – the greatest icon in franchise history – has spoken out to “cool down” the tension between the two head coaches, Raheem Morris and Mike Vrabel.
The focal point of the incident occurred in the 4th quarter, when the Falcons were leading 23–21 and had advanced deep into the red zone. Center Ryan Neuzil unexpectedly snapped the ball early, causing QB Michael Penix Jr. to be pressured and commit an intentional grounding penalty. The Falcons lost 10 yards, had to punt, and the Patriots capitalized on the opportunity to score the game-winning touchdown.
Post-game, head coach Raheem Morris accused the Patriots of clapping to mimic the snap count – a prohibited act under the “disconcerting signals” rule. He argued that it was “cheating” and warranted a 15-yard penalty: “They tricked our center. That’s an illegal action, and the referees overlooked it.”
