Ex Texans WR with a championship and over 1,134 yards in a season has ended the season early, hopes to sign a one-day contract with Houston to retire in Texans colors at age 33. bebe

Houston, Texas – January 9, 2026

A longtime veteran wide receiver, respected for his leadership and experience both on and off the field, has ended his 2025 season prematurely and is reportedly hoping to sign a ceremonial one-day contract to retire in Houston Texans colors at age 33.

The receiver played during the 2025 season with a former team, recording career-low statistics: roughly 20 receptions for 203 yards and no touchdowns, while also contributing as a mentor and veteran presence in the locker room. In the offseason, he signed a one-year deal with the Pittsburgh Steelers, but did not make the initial 53-man roster. After a brief stint on the practice squad, he requested his release, preferring to play on an active roster at this stage of his career rather than remain on the practice squad.

The player in question is Robert Woods, the former Houston Texans wide receiver. Woods, 33, became an unrestricted free agent following the 2025 season and has publicly indicated his desire to retire with the team where he began his NFL career.

Speaking about his future, Woods said:
“Houston has always been special to me. The fans, the teammates, and the city itself made my career memorable. If the timing is right, I’d love to retire in Texans colors, where it all started for me.”

Woods had considered playing through a 13th or even 14th NFL season, but only if he could contribute meaningfully on an active roster. For Texans fans, the prospect of Woods retiring in red and white would be a nostalgic and fitting conclusion to a career that began in Houston and left an indelible mark on the franchise.
