Chiefs Defensive Anchor Rejects $8M Offer From Eagles, Still Hoping for Chiefs Reunion After Learning He Was on the Cut List.susu

Kansas City Chiefs Linebacker Drue Tranquill on the Q-Collar | Q30

In a stunning show of loyalty during the NFL’s business-first era, Kansas City Chiefs linebacker Drue Tranquill has reportedly rejected a confidential $8 million offer from the Philadelphia Eagles — a deal extended quietly after whispers emerged that the Chiefs were considering releasing him to clear cap space in 2026.

The Eagles, known for aggressive talent acquisition, reached out through back channels after learning that Tranquill’s $7.5 million cap hit might make him a casualty of Kansas City’s crowded linebacker room. But despite the tempting offer — which included $6 million guaranteed — Tranquill chose to stand firm.

“I know the business side is tough, but I still bleed red and gold,” Tranquill said in a brief conversation with local reporters. “If this is the end, I’ll accept it. But I won’t walk away unless I absolutely have to.”

Tranquill, 30, has been a mainstay in Steve Spagnuolo’s defense since joining the Chiefs in 2023. He’s played in three straight Super Bowls, helped mentor young standouts like Nick Bolton and Leo Chenal, and has started 28 of 29 possible games since arriving in Kansas City.

Earlier this month, internal conversations reportedly began about parting ways with Tranquill to create breathing room under the salary cap — especially with younger, cheaper talents like Jeffrey Bassa and Cooper McDonald waiting in the wings. But Tranquill’s refusal to jump ship has sparked a wave of support across Chiefs Kingdom.

“He’s the kind of guy you want next to you in the huddle — and in life,” said defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo. “Tough, selfless, and committed to this culture.”

The Eagles’ offer came without fanfare — an unofficial nod that other teams still see high value in the veteran linebacker. But Tranquill reportedly declined within 24 hours, citing unfinished business in Kansas City and a desire to renegotiate rather than relocate.

For now, the Chiefs have not made an official decision on Tranquill’s future. But as cap decisions loom large heading into 2026, one thing is clear: Tranquill’s heart is still at Arrowhead.

“I’ve given this team everything I have,” he added. “And if there’s still a place for me here, I’ll be ready.”
