BREAKING: Patriots Sign New Tight End Amid Multiple Roster Moves.cub

The New England Patriots have shaken up their practice squad, per MassLive’s Mark Daniels. In a move that reflects the team’s ongoing efforts to fine-tune their lineup during the 2025 season, the Pats have added a promising young tight end to the mix: undrafted free agent tight end Marshall Lang.

This development could provide additional options for Drake Maye’s offense as the Patriots navigate the challenges of the AFC East.

Per Daniels, to make room for Lang, New England released tight end Gee Scott Jr. and defensive back Tyron Herring from the practice squad. The releases of Scott and Herring, both undrafted rookies themselves, suggest a strategic pivot toward players who might offer more immediate versatility or fit better with current schemes.

Lang’s addition comes after the Patriots hosted him for a workout earlier in the season, alongside other tight ends, as they evaluated options heading into games.

At 6-foot-4 and around 250 pounds, Lang brings a solid frame suited for blocking and receiving duties. This signing may address needs in the tight end group, especially if injuries or performance issues arise on the active roster. The practice squad serves as a crucial development pipeline, and moves like this allow the team to cultivate talent without immediate cap implications.

Lang, 23, hails from Cincinnati, Ohio, where he starred at St. Xavier High School before committing to Northwestern University. Over five seasons with the Wildcats in the Big Ten Conference, he appeared in 51 games, starting 20 of them. Lang amassed 48 receptions for 491 yards and four touchdowns during his college tenure, showing reliability as a pass-catcher and blocker.

In his final year in 2024, he played in all 12 games, starting three, and recorded 11 catches for 115 yards and one score.

After going undrafted in the 2025 NFL Draft, Lang initially signed with the Seattle Seahawks in May but was waived at the roster cutdown deadline. His journey to the Patriots represents a fresh opportunity to prove himself at the professional level.About the Author
