Philadelphia, Pennsylvania – January 7, 2026
Philadelphia Eagles roster moves on Tuesday took an unexpected turn off the field just hours later. According to multiple local reports, veteran cornerback Ambry Thomas was arrested in downtown Philadelphia Tuesday night following an alleged incident of public intoxication, disorderly conduct, and resisting arrest.

Sources indicate the incident occurred shortly after Thomas learned of his release from the Eagles earlier that afternoon. Witnesses described him as visibly upset and under the influence in a public area near a popular downtown district. Police were called after bystanders reported a verbal altercation that quickly escalated.
Officers arrived at approximately 9:30 p.m. ET, where Thomas reportedly resisted detention and continued shouting at the scene. Authorities confirmed that no one was seriously injured, though the incident resulted in multiple charges being filed.

Thomas, 26, had spent the season with the Eagles after joining the team as a depth defensive back. He appeared in limited rotational snaps but was primarily used on special teams before being waived on Tuesday, just hours before the incident. Known as a physical corner with prior starting experience, the arrest came as a surprise to several members of the organization.

The Eagles released a statement through head coach Nick Sirianni, emphasizing concern while acknowledging Thomas is no longer with the team:
“This is an unfortunate situation. Ambry was released earlier today, but once we became aware of the incident, our primary concern was his well-being. We hope he receives the support he needs during this difficult time.”
Thomas was booked overnight and later released on bail Wednesday morning. The incident remains under investigation, with a court appearance expected later this month.
