Nearly two weeks ago, Kansas City Chiefs defensive tackle Chris Jones expressed hope for a reunion with defensive tackle Mike Pennel. That’s now happening.
After being released by the Cincinnati Bengals earlier on Tuesday, Pennel has signed with the Chiefs, the team announced Wednesday afternoon.
The Chiefs were reportedly exploring options to improve their defensive line ahead of the trade deadline.
Pennel rejoins the Chiefs for a third time. He was on the 2019 and 2023 Super Bowl championship teams.

He signed with the Bengals in the offseason and has also played for the Packers, Jets, Bears and Falcons.
In that press conference two weeks ago, Jones said he missed “everything” about Pennel.
“Mike Pennel is a heck of a locker room guy, and you know so many things I can say about my brother. We’ve got to get my brother back.”
Before his return was announced, head coach Andy Reid spoke about Pennel to the media Wednesday.
“He was a good kid when he was here,” Reid said. “A good player. … He’s got a good attitude.”
