PART 2: “Please… I just need food…” – sushi

She stood.

For one fragile, impossible second, the entire hall was frozen in disbelief. Her legs shook like reeds in a storm, but they held. Mira’s hand was the only anchor keeping her from collapsing. His palm was rough, calloused from years on the streets, yet it trembled just as much as hers.

“I’ve got you,” he whispered.

A broken sob escaped her throat. She took one step. Then another. Each movement sent fire through muscles that had forgotten how to obey, but she kept going—straight into his arms. Mira caught her, holding her tightly as if afraid she might vanish like a dream.

“You kept your promise,” she cried against his shoulder. “You came back to carry me… and now I can walk beside you.”

The billionaire father, Victor Langford, rose slowly from his chair, tears streaming down his usually stoic face. For ten years he had poured billions into cures, therapies, and experimental treatments. None of them had worked. Yet this barefoot boy from the streets had done what the greatest doctors could not.

Security dragged the gray-suited man—Richard Hale—away in handcuffs. His face was ashen, all arrogance gone. The evidence against him was already pouring in: old records, hidden bank accounts, and witnesses who had finally found the courage to speak. He would never see freedom again.

Victor approached them, his voice thick with emotion. “Young man… what is your name?”

“Mira,” the boy said quietly. “But most people just call me the ghost now.”

“Not anymore.” Victor placed a heavy hand on Mira’s shoulder. “You saved my daughter twice—once as a child, and again today. This palace is yours. Everything I have is yours. Stay. Let us take care of you the way we should have ten years ago.”

Mira looked down at the girl still clinging to him. Her name was Elara. Even after a decade, he remembered every detail of her smile. She looked up at him, eyes shining with something deeper than gratitude.

“Please stay,” she whispered. “I don’t want to lose you again.”

Three months later

The sunflower field outside the city had been restored. Rows of bright yellow blooms swayed under the warm sun, exactly as they had in their childhood village before the fire.

Elara walked slowly through the flowers, her steps still careful but growing stronger every day. Mira walked beside her, no longer in rags but in simple, clean clothes. Therapy—both physical and emotional—had become their daily ritual. He never left her side. When nightmares came, he was there to hold her hand. When doubt crept in, he reminded her of the girl who once ran laughing through these same fields.

“You’re getting faster,” Mira teased, gently bumping her shoulder.

Elara laughed—the sound pure and light. “Only because you keep challenging me to races I can’t win yet.”

She stopped walking and turned to face him fully. The wind played with her hair. For a moment, the years melted away, and they were just two children again, bound by a promise.

“Mira… I never stopped thinking about you. Even when they told me you were gone, something inside me refused to believe it.”

He reached out and tucked a strand of hair behind her ear, his fingers lingering. “I looked for you everywhere. I thought you died in that fire. Every night on the streets, I told myself if I survived one more day, maybe I could keep my promise.”

Elara stepped closer until their foreheads touched. “You did more than keep it. You gave me back my life.”

Their lips met softly under the golden sun—hesitant at first, then deepening with all the lost years and quiet longing. When they pulled apart, both were smiling.

Victor watched from the edge of the field, a rare, peaceful expression on his face. He had already begun the paperwork to officially adopt Mira, though the boy had insisted he didn’t need the money or the title.

“I just want her,” Mira had said simply.

And that was enough.

One year later

Elara ran across the palace garden, barefoot and free, laughing as Mira chased her. She was no longer the fragile girl in the wheelchair. She was whole—body and soul.

That evening, as the sun set in hues of rose and gold, Mira knelt before her in the same hall where everything had begun. This time there was no fear, no chaos—only a small velvet box in his hand.

“Elara Langford,” he said, voice steady and full of love, “I promised to carry you if you couldn’t walk. Now I promise something even better. I promise to walk beside you for the rest of our lives… if you’ll have me.”

Tears of joy filled her eyes as she pulled him up and kissed him fiercely.

“Yes,” she whispered against his lips. “A thousand times yes.”

They married six months later in the sunflower field, surrounded by family, new friends, and the bright future they had fought so hard to claim.

And they lived happily—truly, deeply, and freely—ever after.
