The Cleveland Browns and Jacksonville Jaguars made a massive trade late Wednesday night. According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, the Jaguars will get cornerback Greg Newsome II and the New York Jets’ 2026 sixth-round pick from the Browns, while Cleveland gets cornerback Tyson Campbell and the Philadelphia Eagles’ 2026 seventh-round pick from the Jaguars.

This is the second Jaguars-Browns blockbuster trade in six months. Jacksonville selected receiver/cornerback Travis Hunter at No. 2 overall in the draft after sending four picks to Cleveland to move up three spots.

The Jaguars signed Campbell to four-year, $76.5 million extension that included $53.4 million guaranteed in July 2024. Campbell was a second-round pick out of Georgia by the Jags in 2021. Through five games this season, he has recorded 34 tackles, six pass breakups and a forced fumble.

Newsome, the 26th overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, is in the last year of his contract that pays him $13.38 million. In five games this season, Newsome has recorded 23 tackles and five pass breakups.

According to Daniel Oyefusi of ESPN, the Browns would have been willing to extend the Newsome. But with Jacksonville absorbing the remainder of Newsome’s deal and the amount of Campbell’s deal that has already been paid, Cleveland could ultimately get a bit of a discount for a starting-caliber corner.

Newsome is well-known for fighting with George Pickens in the Cleveland end zone last year.

On the final play of the Pittsburgh Steelers’ Week 12 loss, Pickens tried to throw Newsome into the wall behind the end zone after a failed Hail Mary attempt, similar to what he did at Georgia. The fight wasn’t captured during the broadcast, but Pickens was seen being held back by security near the stands.

Newsome called out Pickens after the game.

“Fake tough guy,” Newsome wrote on X with three crying laughing emojis.

This is the second big trade for the Browns ahead of Sunday’s game against the Steelers. On Tuesday, the Browns traded quarterback Joe Flacco and a sixth-round pick to the Cincinnati Bengals for a fifth-rounder.

Flacco, who won the Browns starting quarterback job this offseason in a four-way competition, had been benched for third-round rookie Dillon Gabriel in Week 5. Gabriel made his first career start in the Browns’ loss to the Minnesota Vikings.
