Dallas Cowboys Star CeeDee Lamb Launches $5 Million “Frozen Tails” Sanctuary for Stray Cats in Texas

Dallas Cowboys wide receiver CeeDee Lamb has always been known for his agility, precision, and heart-stopping plays on the field — but this time, he’s making headlines for something far more compassionate. Off the turf and away from the roaring crowds of AT&T Stadium, Lamb has turned his attention to a cause that hits close to home: animal welfare.
In a heartfelt announcement, Lamb revealed the launch of “Frozen Tails,” a $5 million sanctuary dedicated to rescuing, rehabilitating, and rehoming stray cats across Texas. Located just outside of Dallas, the sprawling facility will serve as both a refuge and a long-term solution to one of the state’s growing humanitarian concerns — the surge in abandoned and neglected felines.
“Too many cats are left out in the cold with no care and no hope,” Lamb said at the ribbon-cutting ceremony. “They deserve protection, healing, and a real chance at family. That’s what ‘Frozen Tails’ is all about — giving them that second chance.”
The sanctuary, designed in collaboration with veterinary experts and animal behaviorists, will offer a wide range of services. From climate-controlled housing that shields animals from Texas’ extreme weather conditions, to round-the-clock veterinary care ensuring every rescued cat receives the medical attention it needs — “Frozen Tails” aims to set a new standard for animal welfare infrastructure in the state.

A central focus of the initiative is the large-scale spay-and-neuter program, which Lamb hopes will reduce the number of homeless animals in the long term. “We can’t just treat the symptoms,” he said. “We have to go to the root of the problem — overpopulation.”
The sanctuary will also feature enrichment areas where cats can safely roam, play, and socialize, helping them rebuild trust in humans after suffering neglect or abuse. Each animal will undergo a personalized recovery and socialization plan before being placed for adoption.
Local volunteers, veterinarians, and animal rescue organizations have already rallied around Lamb’s mission. “It’s rare to see someone of his status invest not just money, but genuine emotion and effort into animal rescue,” said Dr. Melissa Grant, a Dallas-based veterinarian who helped design the sanctuary’s medical wing. “CeeDee isn’t just the face of this project — he’s in it every step of the way.”
Lamb’s love for animals reportedly began in childhood. Growing up in Louisiana, he and his family often cared for stray animals that wandered near their home. “I used to sneak food out for the neighborhood cats,” he laughed. “My mom wasn’t thrilled about it, but I couldn’t stand seeing them hungry.”
Now, with success in the NFL and the financial means to make a difference, Lamb says he felt it was time to act. “Football gives me a platform, but this — this gives me purpose,” he said.

Beyond just helping animals, “Frozen Tails” will also serve the community by hosting educational programs on responsible pet ownership, volunteer opportunities for students, and partnerships with local shelters to expand adoption outreach. Lamb’s foundation has even committed to covering adoption fees for the first 500 cats placed through the sanctuary, ensuring no financial barriers stand between a rescued cat and a loving home.
Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy praised Lamb’s initiative during a press briefing, calling it “a reflection of the kind of leader and man he is off the field.” Teammates have also voiced their support, with quarterback Dak Prescott jokingly offering to sponsor a “dog wing” next year.
Social media quickly lit up with admiration for Lamb’s project. Fans flooded his Instagram with messages of gratitude, calling him “a hero beyond football” and “the real MVP.” One user wrote, “CeeDee’s giving cats what every human should have — warmth, safety, and love.”
While his focus remains on helping the Cowboys chase another Super Bowl run, Lamb says he’s equally proud of the lives he’s helping to change through “Frozen Tails.”
“The greatest victories aren’t measured by catches or touchdowns,” he reflected. “They’re measured in the quiet moments — when a cat who’s been through hell finally curls up in a warm bed, safe for the first time. That’s what winning looks like to me.”
With “Frozen Tails,” CeeDee Lamb is proving that true champions don’t just shine under stadium lights — they also bring light to the forgotten corners of the world, one rescued life at a time.
