Troy Aikman Criticizes Referees Live on Air During Bills vs. Eagles Game, Points Out Series of Unfair Calls Against Jalen Hurts – Asserts: “Without the Referees, the Bills Would Have Lost by a Lot More” . bebe

Orchard Park, December 29, 2025 – In the thrilling Week 17 NFL 2025 matchup between the Philadelphia Eagles and Buffalo Bills, which ended in a narrow 13-12 victory for the Eagles, legendary broadcaster Troy Aikman did not hold back in harshly criticizing the officiating crew live on FOX television.

Aikman, a three-time Super Bowl champion with the Dallas Cowboys, argued that a series of unfair calls heavily disadvantaged quarterback Jalen Hurts and the Eagles.

The game at Highmark Stadium was played in harsh weather conditions, but the real drama came from the referees’ decisions. The Eagles dominated much of the game, but the Bills were repeatedly “saved” by overlooked penalties targeting Hurts – from late hits out of bounds and roughing the passer to blatant pass interference on AJ Brown in the end zone.

Eagles fans exploded on social media with hashtags like #RefsVsEagles and #JusticeForHurts, claiming that if those calls had been made correctly, the Eagles could have won by a much larger margin.

In the second half, when replay showed a late push on Hurts from behind that caused him to fall awkwardly, Aikman spoke out strongly. He asserted: “Without the referees, the Bills would have lost by a lot more.” This comment quickly went viral, garnering agreement from thousands of Eagles fans who believed the Bills only stayed in the game thanks to “help” from the refs.

After the game, in the post-game analysis, Aikman added: “I’ve watched the entire game, all the unfair plays that Jalen Hurts had to endure. This game was truly the Eagles vs. Bills With Refs. I think the NFL needs to thoroughly review the footage of this game; I believe this matter cannot end with the final whistle.”

Aikman’s statements sparked a massive wave of debate in the NFL community. Many experts agree that Jalen Hurts, despite being one of the most mobile QBs in the league, often doesn’t receive the same protection as other star quarterbacks (like Patrick Mahomes).

Fan clips on X (Twitter) highlight at least 3-4 missed penalties that could have completely changed the game’s outcome – especially the DPI on AJ Brown that should have given the Eagles 1st & Goal at the 1-yard line.

The NFL has not yet issued an official response, but given Aikman’s history of criticizing officiating (he has previously called decisions “ridiculous” in other games), the league may have to conduct an internal review.

This 13-12 win helps the Eagles solidify their playoff position, while the Bills, despite the loss, still hold potential home-field advantage.

Referee drama continues to be a hot topic in the NFL this season, and with the “fiery” statements from Troy Aikman – an icon of the league – it will surely give NFL leadership a headache. Will there be fines or investigations coming? The fan community is waiting!
